After a hearty breakfast, we bid adieu to the desert as we set our sights on the historic town of Rissani, once a bustling capital of the Tafilalet region. Its legacy as a major trading hub still echoes through its vibrant souk, which comes to life with bustling activity, particularly on its market days – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Our journey unfolds with a leisurely stroll through the colorful Rissani Souk, where the aromas of spices and the clamor of merchants create an enchanting atmosphere. From there, we venture onward to Erfoud, renowned for its workshops specializing in fossilized marble, where we delve into the ancient craft of fossilization and marvel at the intricate designs etched into stone.
As we traverse the scenic route through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, we are greeted by the towering cliffs of the Todra Gorges, a natural wonder carved by the meandering Todra River. Here, adventurous souls can test their mettle on the rocky cliffsides, while others soak in the awe-inspiring beauty of the rugged landscape.
Following a delightful lunch at a local restaurant, our journey continues to the picturesque Dades Valley, where we wind our way through the charming town of Boumalne Dades. Along the way, we pause to admire the peculiar rock formations known as the “monkey fingers,” marveling at the whimsical shapes sculpted by the forces of nature.
As the sun begins its descent, we ascend to a vantage point atop a mountain, where panoramic views of the Dades Valley unfold before us in all their splendor. Finally, we conclude our day with a sumptuous dinner and a restful overnight stay in a cozy hotel, nestled amidst the tranquil landscapes of the valley.
